Joseph Howard Smith 1900-1977

oward, as he was called, was finally born to Cyrena L.(McWilliams) and Fernando W. Smith. Cyrena had difficulty carrying a baby to term and so Fernando was thrilled to have a son. Because of their difficulties, Fernando wasn't able to bring himself to discipline his boy and was overly protective. Likely Howard tormented his sister without reproach. Howard and sister (Lela) Vivien, learned how to farm and take care of stock with Vivien marrying Glenn Foust, farming nearby, and Howard taking over the family farm from his parents. Howard married Margaret Lucile Holaday of Mooreland, Henry county, Indiana and they raised their family of seven. After Margaret's passing, he married a nice lady named Alice. This is the last generation of farmers in the family line, as none of the children chose to keep the farm.
