Melodie Anne Duvall was a talented singer, stunning fashion model, and accomplished businesswoman. She sang briefly with Washington DC-area alternative / indie-rock band Mapping The World. The three-piece band (originally The New Standard) which consisted of George Dively (guitar, vocals), Mark McMullen (bass, vocals), and Matt McMullen (drums, vocals), was looking for someone to help them change musical direction after the release of their 1983 album "Mapping The World." The three were advised to see a weekend performance of the successful Top 40 group which had Melodie as the focal point of their act and immediately they noticed that she generated excitement in the audience with her stage presence and dynamic voice. After a brief discussion that evening the four agreed to join forces and pursue a recording contract; they had been writing their own material for years and many songs already favored Melodie's vocal style. Fortunately for posterity, a recording remains on which Melodie's lead vocals soar on two of the studio demo's five original songs. She will be greatly missed. George/Mark/Matt 2009
