on of Henry Twitchell and Caroline Unknown. Dr. Twitchell was a chemist from Cincinnati, OH. He married Martha Lucas (Mattie) Wallace, the daughter of Col. Alexander M. Wallace and his second wife, Frances Garland Singleton, of Atlanta, GA, in abt. 1892. The couple went to live in OH. Twitchell worked for Emery Candle Co. of Cincinnati. It was in this capacity that he invented the so-called Twitchell Process for separating the tallow in the making of stearine. This won him the 1917 Perkin Medal in industrial chemistry. The process came to be used widely in the production of candles, soaps, etc.
