ohn Vail Fulmer was born August 13, 1907 in Nacogdoches Texas. The son of Clayton Alexander Fulmer (1873-1968) and Ella Cureton (1875-1949). Vail was reared on his parents farm in Nacogdoches County. Vail married Maude Perry. He entered the US Navy in 1942. He trained at the US Naval Training Ctr. in San Diego California. He served in the Pacific. He was awarded The Asian Theatre of Operation Ribbon, The APO Ribbon, and a good conduct medal. He was discharged in 1945. Vail settled on Galveston Island where he worked in construction. The oldest Veteran of Galveston County, he was a member in good standing with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Raymond C. Paul Post No. 880 of Galveston, Texas and also a member with the Tucker Lodge #297 since 1949. Vail Fulmer, 100, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Gulf Health Care Center in Galveston, Texas. He was interred in The National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
