Weldon Douglas Scroggins was born 18 August 1924 in Austin, Texas. His father, William Henry Scroggins, was born in Alabama. His mother, Ada Jones, was born in Texas. William and Ada lived in Brazoria County, Texas, where William farmed. The couple raised three sons and a daughter.

Prior to enlisting in the Army, Wendell Scroggins worked as a welder at the Houston Ship Building Corporation.

Weldon D. Scroggins enlisted in the Army on 23 Apr 1943 in Houston, Texas. He completed basic training at Camp Wolters, Texas. He then volunteered for jump training, which was completed at Fort Benning, GA. Weldon Scroggins was transferred to Camp McCall, NC, after jump training. Weldon D. Scroggins served as a Private in the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Co. H. In 1943, Private Scroggins was sent overseas, where he was stationed in Northern Ireland and England. On D-day, the paratroopers of the 508th were dropped into Normandy. Private Wendell D. Scroggins was killed in action that day. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Private Weldon D. Scroggins is interred at the South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Brazoria County, Texas.
