About jasustar
I'm looking for genealogical information about my paternal grandparents. My grandfather, John or Janez Sustar came from Zgornja Sorica 23, Slovenia in 1913. Alternate spellings of his last name include Suster, Suštar, Sušter, Stostar and Schuster. His wife, my grandmother, was Mary (Marija or Maria) Koblar. She came from Spodnja Sorica, Slovenia. They settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They had several children--Carl, Mary, Leo, John, Christina, and Stanley. My father, John, and his brother Stanley, changed the spelling of their surnames to Schuster. Unfortunately, my grandparents and all of their children have passed on. I have been able to find records for all of them except Leo. I’ve performed many, many searches using Leo, Leopold and Leonard with both Sustar and Schuster as the surname, all with out any results. It’s as if he didn’t exist! If anyone has information about my uncle Leo, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Most importantly with respect to Footnote.com, I am looking for details of my father’s service in the U.S. Army in World War II. He enlisted on July 7, 1942 and was discharged December 5, 1945. He served as a Motorcycle Patrolman with a rank of Private First Class. He was stationed at Squires Gate Airbase outside of Blackpool, England, where he met my British mother Florence. Ideally, I want to find out about his training and the rituals of daily life during his tour of duty.
