Former players on the field, A.G. Spalding, 6th from left in front row, pitched for Boston in the 1870s, Fred W. Thayer, 12th from the left in the front row, invented the catcher's mask for Harvard in the 1870s, and James Tyng, 8th from the left in the front row, former Harvard catcher, who was the first player to wear the mask in a game.
