Funeral services for Lewis "Shorty" Caywood, 78, were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Phillips & Luckey Chapel with burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Rev. George Doss officiated.

Mr. Caywood died Thursday in Richards Memorial Hospital after an illness of several months. He had been a Rockdale resident since March, 1978. He had resided in and around Rockdale all his life.

He was born Aug. 2, 1905 in Milam County to Mr. and Mrs. William Isaac (Miranda Frances Lowe) Caywood. He was a self-employed carpenter and painter.

Mr. Caywood and Elsie English were married Sept. 6, 1949 in Cameron.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Caywood of Rockdale; one son, Joe Caywood of Pettibone; three step-sons, William E. Clinard of Temple, Myrl Clinard of North Carolina and Van Clinard of Silsbee; two step-daughters, Bernice Stephens of San Antonio and Jane Widmer of San Marcos; two sisters, Susan Davis of Wichita Falls and Elizabeth Cotton of Milano; also five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Pall bearers were Demp Weems, Alvisa Peeples, Fred Pounders, Sonny Wonreck , Hubert Caywood and Henry Stephens.

Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
