Ed Stone was my paternal grandfather's brother-in-law, the husband of his youngest sister, Caroline.

Born in Big Stone Gap, VA on February 2, 1918, he married Susan Caroline Callahan in Madisonville, TN on August 6, 1939. They were the parents of one daughter, Eddie Carol.

Ed began his service when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1943 at Abington, VA. He served in the European theatre. In January 1945 his brother-in-law, Mike Callahan, told of running into Ed near Sarrebourg, France.

A career U.S. Army Officer who served his country in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, Lieutenant Colonel Stone retired in 1973. Ed died on June 9, 2000 in Travis County, TX, 7 years after Caroline.

Ed was buried with full military honors in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
