Ivan D. Bales, 55, 2897 Strader Road, died this morning at his home after a short illness.

He was a native of Glasgow, Mont., and was a retired employee of Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. He had worked at the Graphic Press since 1980. He was a 1948 graduate of Richmond High School. An Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and he was a former member of the Harry Ray Post No. 65, American Legion and the Moose Lodge. S

Survivors include his wife, Frances; two sisters, Eula Bicknell and Hoyt Tye, both of Richmond; four brothers, Layton of Arroyo, Calif., Kenneth of Oroville, Calif., and Mark and Keith both of Richmond; one stepson, Russell Figgins of Hiattsville, Md.; neices and nephews.

Funeral service for Ivan D. Bales will be at 1:30 p.m. Sumday at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phil Hodgkin, pastor of the First bbaptist Church, officiating. Burial with military rites, will be in Richland Cemetery, near Liberty. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturaday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Reid Memorial Hospital Foundation for the Hospice Program.
