Thomas Seals Served in the 7th Wisconsin (Iron Brigade) but he was originally from Greene County Pennsylvania and moved to Wisconsin Just before the war. Thomas's Brother James still lived in Pennsylvania and he served in the same company as Peter. Any time their regiments were camped in the same area Thomas and brother would visit each other. There is a good chance that the Seals brothers grew up with Peter Syphers.

Dear Parent

I received your letter a day or two ago and was very glad to hear from you and that you are in good health and the (???) is all gioing to the war, Some of them will see more than bargain for if they don’t look out as for Wm. Seals He had better stay at home with his family for this is not the place for him, He Cannot stand it here one month for he cannot stand the fatigue and the exposure men have to go through. This is not the place for men that has poor health. I think Wm. (William) had better stay at home. There is no call for him here. I was over to see James last night and he is coming over to day and we are going to write a big letter home. I seen his letter last night. James is a good boy and is liked by the officers and men. All of the boys in his company fondly worship him and he makes them all stand to one side when he tells them to. James is a good soldier and I am proud to see him conduct himself so well. You need not be alarmed about him for he can take care of himself. Things is dull here at this time. I was out on review yesterday to see Father Abraham he (???) care waring timed but he’s all sound on the Negro question of late. This war will come to a close in a short time now, Mark this now this war is going to play out as (???) the (???) (???) stand it threw the (???) so they (???), But I am willing to give them around (???).

More (???) (???) (???) (???) them everyday. They say that they will quit if we will but this will not suit us. Pete Syphers is on the sick list. He is homesick. Wm (William) Zimmerman (?) is in the hospital but he is getting well very fast at present and will be around in a day or two> All of the rest of the boys is well as far as I know.

This is about all of the news so I will close this letter for the present.
