Daniel O'Sheal gave financial support to General George Washington. Descendants of Daniel O'Sheal qualify to join the DAR and SAR under Daniel O'Sheal's name. Daniel was briefly involved in the War of Independence by giving financial aid to the Patriots so as to gain Independence from King George III.
