Lt Willard R Hornung was a Commissioned Navigator in the 310th Bomb Group, the 381st Bomb Squadron of B-25 Mitchell Medium Bombers flying COMBAT in the MTO. (1943)

* Lieutenant Willard R. Hornung flew a tour of 50 combat missions between March and September, 1943, in the 381st Bomb Squadron, 310th Bomb Group. Lieutenant Hornung flew most of his missions as bombardier in the crew of Captain Walter E. Coddington. Most of the Coddington crew's missions were flown in a B-25 named the "Green Hornet" (aircraft number 41-13085). Lieutenant Hornung appears to have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also was awarded the Air Medal with numerous Oak Leaf Clusters.** Lieutenant Hornung wrote to his fiance, Marilyn, in South Carolina. They were married in November 1943, almost immediately after Hornung returned from North Africa. Willard R. Hornung died in 1955.

Lt was then assigned to the 47th BW and placed on Detached Service.
