Stanley C. Rogers was the oldest child of George Rogers Sr. and Julia D’ Cory, both Native Americans of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. Stanley had four sisters as well as six half-brothers and sisters. His father had served in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1893, after serving five years.

At the age of seventeen, Stanley graduated from St. Francis Mission, St. Francis, SD. His friends at school had called him “Buck” after the cartoon character, Buck Rogers. The nickname stuck, and everyone then called Stanley by his nickname.

Stanley wanted to enlist in the army when the country became involved in war, but he wasn’t eighteen yet, so his parents signed permission papers, although his mother was vehemently opposed to her son’s wishes. He went in anyway. PFC Stanley Rogers went overseas and served in the Pacific theater of operations. He was in Co B 63rd Inf Training Battalion—3rd Platoon. Pfc. Stanley C. Rogers was killed in action during the third day of the Invasion of Luzon in the Philippine Islands. His father, who was in poor health, died some days after receiving the news of his son’s death.

Stanley “Buck” Rogers was buried at Plot F, Row 14, Grave 67, Manila American Cemetery, Philippines. His great-nephew, Stanley W. Rogers, was named in memory of his heroic uncle.
