The 166th was awarded both a Presidential Unit Citation and a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation for it's distingushed service in the Philippines. The US Presidential Unit Citation is the highest award given by the US Army for unit service.

I want to thank my Aunt Jannette, Daddy's sister, for gathering some of these photos and Daddy's discharge papers and sending them to me. I was told by NARA that Daddy's military service records were lost in the 1973 fire in the Missouri records center. So until I received his "Enlisted Record and Report of Separation Honorable Discharge" paper from Aunt Jannette yesterday, I had no idea of his Unit -- only that he was a gun crewman and served in Australia, New Guinea and Philippines. Now I will be able to piece together more of his experiences and service history.

An aside to this story is that this very "Separation" record was blown into a neighboring county by a tornado and was found, stuck in a fence by a friend of my Dad's brother, Grover Cleveland Coe, Jr. (known as "Spot" Coe). Spot's friend brought the record to him, years after Daddy died, and his daughter, Marion Lee sent it on to Aunt Jannette.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can identify the other soldiers pictured in this album, so that I could provide copies of the photos to them or their families. Perhaps someone from the Museum of Southern Oklahoma might be able to do so, since several of Daddy's Madill buddies served with him.
