Walter J Mowrer was listed as Section Chief for Supply and Maintenance in the 392nd Bombardment Squadron in Nov 1944.

From "The History of the 392nd Bombardment Squadron", Nov 1944:

"The Supply and Maintenance Section, under S/Sgt. MOWRER, kept

the planes supplied with flak equipment, cleaning and preserving materials,

and spare parts of all descriptions. The average monthly expenditure of

cleaning materials for our aircraft is as follows: 300 caliber 50 brushes,

125 caliber 30 brushes, 40 quarts of lubricating oil, 4 gallons of recoil oil,

and 25,000 patches. An ample supply level is kept in stock at all times - a

fact that can be readily verified by the Armament Section."

From "The History of the 392nd Bombardment Squadron", July 1945:

"S/Sgt. WALTER MOWRER left this month on an emergency furlough.

Since he is gifted with superfluous points, it isn't expected that

he will have to return here to rough it with the pineapples".

The 392nd Bombardment Squadron was assembled at March Field, CA in the fall of 1943. It moved to Barking Sands, Kauai, Hawaii Territory in Oct 1943. In Nov 1943 the squadron moved to Canton Island in the Phoenix Islands, and began combat operations against the Japanese.

Over the next year and a half the squadron kept moving "from one damn island to another". In Jan 1944 the 392nd Bomb Squadron moved to Apamama Island, followed by a move to Kwajalein Island in Mar 1944. Their final move was to Saipan in Aug 1944. They remained there until Feb 1945, at which time they returned to Hawaii. They were sent back to the US in the summer and fall of 1945.
