Gazette Information: VICTORIA CROSS,: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/35360/supplement/6825. Lieutenant Arthur Roden Cutler (NX.12378), 2/5th Field Artillery, Australian Military Forces. During the period 19th June – 6th July 1941 in the Merdjayoun-Damour area, Syria, the exploits of Lieutenant Cutler included the repair of a telephone line under heavy fire, the repulse of enemy tanks with an anti-tank rifle, the setting up of an outpost to bring under fire a road used by enemy transport, and the demolishing, with a 25-pound field gun, of a post threatening to hold up the British advance. While laying a line to his outpost at Damour, he was seriously wounded, and by the time he was rescued 26 hours later, his leg had to be amputated.
